Stats & coverage April 14, 2002 Missouri takes series with 16-12 win Columbia, MO -- Lee Laskowski's seventh-inning grand slam capped a six-run Missouri comeback, as the Tigers overcame a five-run seventh-inning deficit to stun No. 10 Nebraska, 16-12 in front of a crowd of 1,006 at Simmons Field Sunday afternoon. Laskowski, who went 2-for-4 with a career-high seven RBIs, gave Missouri, which improved to 16-18 overall and 5-10 in the Big 12, a 13-12 lead with a two-out grand slam to left off Husker reliever Jason Burch, who took the loss to fall to 3-2 on the season. Trailing 12-7, the Tigers strung together six his and capitalized on two costly Husker errors for their six-run rally. With one out and NU holding a 12-8 lead, Jody Roughton's grounder was hit into the hole between first and second, but was misplayed by Bolt and ruled an error - one of five for NU in the loss - cutting NU's lead to 12-9 before Laskowski gave the Tigers the lead for good. With the loss, NU dropped to 23-13 and 10-8 in league play and the setback marked the second time in three days that Missouri had rallied from a deficit of four runs or more and had come back to win. In a game that saw 28 runs and 26 hits, the Huskers jumped out to leads of 6-0 and 12-7, as they pounded out 11 hits, including home runs from Matt Hopper, Drew Anderson and Jeff Blevins, who had three of the Huskers 11 hits. Nebraska jumped on Missouri starter Drew Endicott for six runs in the first, as the first five batters he faced came around to score. Jeff Leise, who had two hits and drove in three runs, drew a leadoff walk and stole second before Daniel Bruce walked to move runners to first and second. Jed Morris continued his torrid stretch with an RBI single to left before Matt Hopper lifted a towering three-run homer to left center, his fifth of the season, to give the Huskers a 4-0 advantage. Jeff Blevins continued the onslaught with a double to right before Anderson added to the Husker lead with a two-out, two-run homer to right, his first of the season, off the Tiger starter. The Tigers scored a run in the first came back with four more off NU starter Brian Duensing in the second. The Tigers loaded up the bases before Luke Cassis' RBI single and Jody Roughton's bases loaded walk cut the NU lead to 5-3. Lee Laskowski, who drove in MU's first run, delivered a two-run single to center to put MU within a run Nebraska quickly extended the lead to 10-5, chasing Endicott with four runs in the third with only one hit. NU loaded the bases before MU reliever Abel Newton hit Joe Simokaitis with the bases loaded before Leise cleaned the bases with a double into the right field corner. Endicott lasted just 2.1 innings, allowing eight runs on four hits, while walking three batters, as neither starter was involved in the decision. After the rocky second, Duensing settled down, allowing two runs, solo homers by Chris Julo in the fourth and Jody Roughton in the sixth, as the freshman pitched six innings in his first conference start. The southpaw scattered 11 hits, but struck out five and left with a 12-7 lead. Nebraska tallied single run both the sixth, on Jeff Blevins' third homer of the year, and in the seventh off Tiger closer Travis Wendte on a Bruce RBI single that scored Simokaitis, but Wendte pitched the final three innings to improve to 3-1 with the win. The Huskers return home for a Tuesday night contest against Creighton at Hawks Field, beginning at 6:35 p.m. The Bluejays won the first of three meetings, 8-3, at the CU Sports Complex last Tuesday. Notes: With Hopper's homer (the 38th of his career), he now has 184 RBI, moving past Darin Erstad (181, 1993-95) into fourth place on NU career charts…Nebraska has scored four or more times in an inning in each of the past four games and on 24 (2 today) occasions this season…The Huskers have scored in the first inning in 24 of 36 contests…Bolt made his 219th career appearance, moving into sole possession of third place on Nebraska's games played list…Anderson's homer was his first since a three-run homer against UTSA on April 17, 2001…NU has scored 10 or more runs in a game 13 times this season..the 16 runs was the most NU allowed all season and the first time NU allowed 10 or more runs in a contest in 2001.
