Missouri's Tigers tossed an early bomb at Nebraska and went on to register a 17-7 victory before 60,500 fans in the initial Big 8 game for each team. The first time the Tigers got the ball Terry McMillan tossed a 69-yard TD pass to speedster Mel Gray for a 7-0 lead with only 2:11 played in the game. Nebraska fought on even terms from that point until late in the second quarter when a Husker fumble gave Missouri the ball on the NU 16 with only :21 left in the half. McMillan hit Shyrock for another Tiger tally with :09 left. The Cornhuskers got back in the game early in the third quarter when Jerry Tagge flipped a short pass to Jeff Kinney, who broke two tackles and sprinted 77 yards to score, cutting the gap to 14-7. Jon Staggers returned the ensuing kickoff 41 yards and the Tigers drove to the Husker 31. On fourth down Brown kicked a 48-yard field goal to ice the Tiger victory and even the Huskers' record at 2-2. SERIES HISTORY  |
