Official recap
It was the first time in 1979 since the Iowa game that Nebraska fans had to wait for the outcome of the game past the third quarter. A 19 yard field goal by senior kicker Dean Sukup and a game saving sack of Missouri quarterback Phil Bradley by defensive end Derrie Nelson secured the Husker victory.

It came down to the final seconds and the Blackshirt defense came through with flying colors.

The Cornhuskers had to switch to junior I-back Craig Johnson when Jarvis Redwine was injured in the second quarter. Johnson gave a great effort, finishing with 98 yards.

The Huskers were in command of the game until a couple of bad breaks beset NU, the most costly being a fumbled kickoff when a Mizzou defender leveled Husker return man Anthony Steels.

Redwine's string of 100 yard games was broken, but for their efforts, Bill Barnett and Nelson were named Co-Big 8 Defensive Players of the Week. It was a revenge win for the Huskers who had their hopes of a national championship shattered by the Tigers last year in Lincoln.
