Jay
Brady Jay Brady was born in Ainsworth, Nebraska in 1937, the son of Dr. R. R. Brady and Helen Shrimpton Brady. Graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1955, attended University of Nebraska 1 year, then 2 years at Kearney State College. Started in commercial radio broadcasting in 1958 as a disc jockey, news reporter and play by play sports announcer with stops in O'Neill, York, Norfolk, Chadron and Winner, South Dakota before settling in Grand Island, Nebr. Later on managed Radio KNLV, Ord, Nebraska from 1974-78. Also spent 15 years in retail furniture sales in Grand Island, Omaha and Greeley, Colorado.. After a month long hospital stay in December 1994 left me very weak and unable to work full time, I became a house husband until the routine nearly drove me crazy. I started writing a column entitled "Do You Remember" recalling memories from the post World War II era. The first column ran in May, 1997 and is still published on a biweekly basis in The Ainsworth Star Journal newspaper and the Nebraska and Colorado Fencepost magazines. The book "Do You Remember" is a compilation of these columns written from 1997 until the end of the century. Volume II of "Do You Remember" will be published in the near future with columns written since the start of 2000. A fourth publishing of the original book is now scheduled. You can enjoy memories of people, places and events during the late 1940s and throughout the 1950s. Memories of the old radio shows, music of that era, standards and values that were a part of society then, sports events and athletes from the mid 20th century, plus some poetry and other related material. If you grew up in a small town or rural area, "Do You Remember" will bring a smile to your face and a tear to your eye. Jay and his wife, Nancy, live in Fort Lupton, Colorado with their 3 cats. Jay's one daughter, Teri (Mrs. Ralph) Dudley, is a school principal in Riverside, California and the mother of a 2 year old daughter, Dallas Dominique. I look forward to my columns becoming a part of the Huskerpedia Website and hope you find a pleasant memory or two as we share. The book "Do You Remember" sells for $19.95 and each copy is signed. The book is available in about 50 independent book stores in Nebraska. You can also order a copy online. Best Wishes and Happy Memories; Return to articles.
